Weekly Invention by InventionHome.com – “Cat Scratch Post”

InventionHome announces their Invention of the Week – “Cat Scratch Post”

Independent inventor Darryl Jennus wanted his cat to be able to “sharpen” its claws without tearing up the house! He enlisted the help of InventionHome to assist him in finding marketing/licensing opportunities for his Patented invention, “Cat Scratch Post”.

Do you like the idea of your cat being able to keep its claws but fear that you will have to replace furniture, curtains or other household items due to the scratching? Inventor Darryl Jennus felt just this way. He designed a Cat Scratch Post that would solve the problem while also offering the most benefit for the cat.

Posts with a soft scratching surface do not promote consistent use by the cat or proper “sharpening” of the nails. A thistle rope scratch post may not be the answer either as it does not afford the cat the free vertical motion because the material is wrapped horizontally around the post thus creating the possibility that the cat may snag its claw(s) in the rope fiber and injure the nail base.

Darryl came up with a design that would be made of a heavy-duty carpet-backing type material that will withstand repeated use by any cat. It also has a catnip treated surface which helps entice most felines to utilize the durable scratching surface. The post measures approximately 21” tall and has a circumference of 17”. Cat Scratch Post sits atop a carpet-covered base measuring approximately 14” square.
